What Protection for our Elderly in Care?
Southern Cross crisis could have a devastating impact
Following ongoing news concerning the precarious financial situation of Britain’s largest provider of care homes for older people the Relatives & Residents Association has taken its concerns to the very top. In April, R&RA Chair, Judy Downey, wrote to the chief executives of both the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
We urgently request some reassurance from you that the CQC is actively seeking and obtaining evidence that Southern Cross homes are meeting required statutory regulations and standards. Additionally, we should like some clear reassurance that this provider remains fit to care for the many vulnerable elderly people placed in their care, given their continuing precarious circumstances.
