CQC Not Working

CQC Not WorkingWe’ve listened to the harrowing stories of our callers and heard your heartbreaking messages and we’re determined to continue in our quest to make your voices heard.

The Relatives & Residents Association has been calling on the government to make changes to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – the body responsible for regulating care homes for older people.

We want:

  • A robust and responsive complaints system which listens and acts upon individual concerns
  • A minimum of two inspections per year for every care home (with at least one of them unannounced)
  • a potent enforcement capacity which sends out powerful messages to care providers, managers and front line workers that nothing less than decent care is acceptable.

CQC publishes its final report on standards of Dignity and Nutrition in hospitals. R&RA puts out press statement repeating call for same investigation to be made in social care.

CQC is not working effectively for vulnerable older people in care homes. It needs to give greater priority to ensuring that this equally vulnerable group receives proper care. They, too, need inspection to ensure that they receive the skilled care they need and to ensure that their dignity and nutrition is properly safeguarded.
