  > >   Living in a care home

Every year the R&RA advice line helps over 3000 people. We know, from years of experience talking to relatives and friends, and prospective residents themselves, that, when they start looking for one, most people have little experience of care homes and few know what to expect. Care practices and elements of living in a care home need elaboration, explanation and discussion so that people not steeped in care home culture can make an informed judgement about what is good, bad or indifferent practice. The Living in a care home series is written for relatives and discusses key areas that cause concern amongst our callers. By informing relatives, expectations of care homes, that historically have been low, will be increased among potential residents thereby encouraging care homes to improve their care practices as a result.
