Inspection in Action
TITLE
Inspection in Action: Making inspection work
DESCRIPTION
The (now defunct) care home regulator, the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), established a system of star ratings in 2007 by which it assessed and rated registered care homes across England. Scrutiny of a number of SCI reports raised R&RA concerns about the basis that had been adopted for awarding the stars. In particular, worries centred on CSCI’s definition of ‘adequate’ whereby a home is awarded 1 star. The R&RA subsequently undertook a survey of 100 randomly selected inspection reports of homes rated as ‘adequate’. This report presents the findings.
