 > > Thinking About Improving Practice

R&RA’s work on improving practice is funded by Comic Relief and is aimed at staff working in homes for older people.

The topics have been selected as a result of an analysis of calls to helplines run by R&RA and AEA over a 6 month period, and other discussions and experiences shared with us by managers and staff of homes.

Privacy is so important to us all but can easily be compromised unless we think carefully about how we do our jobs and the effects this can have on residents.

Mealtimes ought to be pleasurable experiences but for people whose physical or mental capacity is fading help is needed so that they can go on enjoying being with other people.

Assisting people so that they can maintain or regain continence is such a basic human need that can cause distress and discomfort.

The central message of each of these Briefings is that there are so many small things that can make a big difference to the daily lives of older people living in care homes.

While intended primarily for staff they are written in a straightforward manner meaning that they can be useful to relatives and friends too."

More titles will be added to the series over the coming months.
