Relatives & Residents Association

We support, inform and speak on behalf of older people in care

Connected by care, united by loss

Today we commemorate all the people who have lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus has had a devastating impact and many thousands of older people receiving care have passed away since the outbreak began. Whilst the daily statistics are a heart-breaking reminder of this loss, the personal stories beneath the numbers are rarely heard. There have been few opportunities for people to come together to share their grief and to remember those who are no longer with us.

The Relatives & Residents Association are joining with other organisations across the care sector to commemorate the lives lost through a mutual act of remembrance. Whilst we recognise that the pandemic is not over, we hope that in coming together to remember, we can shine a light on the collective loss.

Today we commemorate those who have lost their lives. We pay tribute to the health and care staff who made the ultimate sacrifice. We stand with the family and friends left behind. We remember those who died with no family or friends to memorialise them.

They were not expendable.
