PROMISES PROMISES

25 July 2019: Boris Johnson has said that no-one should be evicted from their family home to pay for the cost of care.

The Government urgently needs to invest in training to improve its status, recruitment and retention and not simply hope for the best.

We know that It’s not just about money.  Without a strategy for the future of the workforce, the sector will continue to have the highest turnover and the lowest wages.   The Government urgently needs to invest in training to improve its status, recruitment and retention and not simply hope for the best.

Yesterday, Boris Johnson spoke of a “New spirit of can-do, and we’re once again going to believe in ourselves….Like some slumbering giant, we’re going to rise and ping off the guy-ropes of doubt and negativity”.

But for those who contact us day in and day out and who depend on care, reliance on optimism alone won’t wash.  There are grandiose assumptions about the future of care services, but sadly no detail about delivery or how any improvements will be implemented or funded.  We continue to wait and hope.
